Pursuant to 4 USC (m), the colors if the United States are being flown at half staff in memory of Justice John Paul Stevens of the Supreme Court of the United States. Under this provision, the flag is flown at half staff from the date of death until the date of internment.
Justice Stevens passed away on July 16, 2019 at the age of 99. Justice Stevens was served on the Supreme Court from December 17, 1975 through his retirement on June 29, 2010.
He served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1942-1945, earning the Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012 by President Barack Obama.
