August 24, 2019 – United Kingdom

Today’s flag represents the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It’s also known as the Union Jack. It combines the flag combines aspects of three older national flags: the red cross of St George for the Kingdom of England, the white saltire of St Andrew for Scotland (which two were united in the first Union Flag), and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland.

Though it looks symmetrical, there is a up side and a down side to the flag. The key is looking at the fly and making sure that the red diagonal stripe is on the vertical, not the horizontal.
