Today, the flag of the State of Alaska flies in commemoration of its admittance to the Union on January 3, 1959 as the 49th state. I
The Alaskan flag was designed by Benny Benson, who, along with 700 other people, entered a design in a 1927 contest.
Also flying, is the flag of Texas.
