Today, the flag of Utah flies to commemorate the Beehive state’s admission to the Union on January 4, 1896 as the 45th state.
My version of the flag, which was purchased in Salt Lake City in 2005, was contains an error that was present in all Utah flags printed from about 1922 to 2011. The year 1847 should be in the shield, but rather is printed below the shield and above the year 1896. The flag was corrected in 2011 with the legislature passage of HCR 002 by the Utah Legislature, which urges all flag makers to manufacture Utah flags in accordance with the statutory design, found in Utah Code Section 63G-1-501.
