Today, the flags of the State of Delaware and the State of California fly to celebrate the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
President Biden is a proud Delawarean, having attended the University of Delaware and served s the state’s United States Senator from 1973 to 2009. As a Senator and sometimes as Vice President, he commuted via train between Wilmington and Washington, D.C. I saw him board his train heading north while waiting for my own train in April of 2015.
Vice President Kamala Harris is a proud Californian and has roots in the East Bay, to boot. Vice President Harris is the first woman, first black American, and first American of South Asian descent to hold national office. She has previously served as District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California, and United States Senator from California.
