Today, before the rains arrive, the flag of the Commonwealth of Australia flies in celebration of Australia Day! This is Australia’s National holiday, which commemorates the the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet at Port Jackson in New South Wales, and the raising of the British flag at Sydney Cove by Arthur Phillip.
In present-day Australia, celebrations aim to reflect the diverse society and landscape of the nation and are marked by community and family events, reflections on Australian history, official community awards and citizenship ceremonies welcoming new members of the Australian community. (Information from Wikipedia)
Some indigenous Australians celebrate the day as Invasion Day or Mourning Day in recognition of the change to their cultures which occurred because of the arrival of Europeans.
My wife and i visited Australia in March of 2020. Here’s my photo of the flag of Australia flying over Parliament House in Canberra on March 6, 2020.

Here’s a great video from Australia Parliament House about the 6.4 x 12.6 meter Australian Flag which flies on a 120 meter flag pole above APH.

Also flying is the flag of Australia’s Northern Territory.
