Today, the flags of Finland and Mexico fly.

The Finnish flag flies in commemoration of J.L. Runeberg’s birthday. Born in 1904, Runeberg was was the national poet of Finland who wrote in Swedish, and also exercised great influence on Swedish literature. Runeberg’s poetry has been compared to that of the great European romantics, such as Hugo, Shelley, Keats, Lermontov and Petöfi. He was the first Finnish writer who achieved a broad national significance.

The flag of Mexico flies today in commemoration of Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución) is one of Mexico’s annual Fiestas Patrias (public holidays), commemorating the promulgation of the Constitution on 5 February 1917.
