Today, the Star Spangled Banner and the flag of Illinois fly in commemoration of Abraham Lincoln’s birth on February 12, 1809.

The Star Spangled Banner was the flag of the United States from May 1, 1795 – July 3, 1818, and was nation’s flag when President Lincoln was born. It has 15 stars and 15 stripes.

Lincoln’s family moved to Illinois in 1830. The state’s nickname is “Land of Lincoln.”
