April 16, 2021 – Senator Paull Shin

Today, the flags of the United States and the state of Washington fly at half staff in memory of Washington State Senator Paull Shin, who died on Monday, April 12th.

Senator Shin was born in Korea and was an orphan, he was adopted by a U. S. Army officer and brought to the United States in his teenage years. He learned English, a GED, a bachelor’s degree, and finally a PhD. He became a professor and taught many students.

He represented the 21st district of Washington in the state’s House of Representatives and then the State Senate.

I served as his Legislative Assistant (one full time, year round staff member) from 2002 to 2006. I learned a tremendous amount from Senator Shin in my years as his Legislative Assistant. He had a great sense of humor and was a great teacher.

My sympathies go out to his wife Donna, his son Paull and his daughter Alisa and her husband Scott, as well as his five grandsons.
