In my sun-down perambulations last night, through the industrial parts of Oakland, I observed several parties of youngsters playing ‘base,’ a certain game of ball…. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms…. The game of ball is glorious. – With my deepest apologies to Walt Whitman for the paraphrasing.
I went to a baseball game last night, live and in person for the first time since 2019, at the Coliseum. It was indeed glorious! It brought back good feelings of the before times and such a feeling of community. AND the A’s won in a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th with two outs. AND Manaea was perfect through six innings and no hit through 7.
The game of ball is glorious!
Today, the flags of the City of Oakland and the Oakland Athletics fly in celebration of Baseball!
