Today, to get a South American feel, the flags of Chile & Argentina fly.

The Argentine flag is a triband of two light blue stripes separated by a white stripe, on which the Sun of May is centered. I purchased this flag in Ushuaia, Argentina, in the way home from Antarctica in 2005.

The Chilean flag, which predates the Texas flag by 22 years, consists of two equal horizontal bands of white and red, with a blue square the same height as the white band in the canton, which bears a white five-pointed star in the center.
