Today, the flag of the State of Hawaii flies in commemoration of its admittance to the Union on August 21, 1959 as the 50th state.
Also flying is the current flag of the United States, with 50 stars and 13 stripes. This design has been in use since the 50th star was added on July 4, 1960, making it the longest duration of any version of the flag the United States. The design with the second longest duration was the 48 star version, which flew for 47 years fromJuly 4, 1912 through July 3, 1959.
