Today, the United States celebrates the holiday of Thanksgiving. On October 3, 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the final Thursday in November as a “Day of Thanksgiving and Praise”. His proclamation reflects his faith and acknowledged his belief that God is the source of the nation’s bounty.
This Thanksgiving will be a bit more normal than last years, but we are still in the throes of the pandemic. As a nation, we have much to be thankful for and much to consider about our history. I hope that we can keep the examination of our past going and that we can continue to make progress in making amends for our past failings.
