On this date in 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor took place. Just before 8:00 a.m., the first bombs were dropped on the US Pacific Fleet at the Pearl Harbor Naval base. Over the course of the attack, over two thousand members of the U. S. Armed forces were killed and another 1,100 were injured.
The attack brought the then neutral United States into World War II.

Today, the flags of the United States and State of Hawaii fly at half staff in memory of the lives lost at Pearl Harbor and all of World War II.
