Today, the flags of Utah and New Mexico fly in commemoration the anniversary of their admission to the Union.
Utah was admitted to the United States on January 4, 1896 as the 45th state. My version of the Utah flag was the state’s flag from 1922 to 2011, when an error on the flag was corrected and the color of the shield was slightly modified.

New Mexico was admitted to the Union as the 47th state on January 6, 1912. It is the only state flag that doesn’t have any white or blue. It is one of my favorite state flags, and was ranked first in a survey of American and Canadian state, province, and territorial flags conducted by NAVA in 2001.
