Australia Day celebrates the January 26, 1788 landing of the first fleet in Sydney. The holiday aim to reflect the diverse society and landscape of the nation and are marked by community and family events and reflections on Australian history.
Republic day in India celebrates the Constitution of India coming into force on January 26, 1950. This transformed India from a Commonwealth realm to a fully independent republic.
Today is also the admission day of the state of Michigan, but alas, I don’t have a third flagpole!
