Today the flag of Japan flies in commemoration of National Foundation Day, which celebrates the foundation of Japan in 660 BC.
Also flying today is the Flag of Vatican City, commemorating the signing of the Lateran treaty on this date in 1929. The treaty formally made the Vatican City State independent from Italy.
