Today, the flag of the United States flies at half staff in memory of Madeleine Albright, who served as the first female Secretary of State. Dr. Albright escaped the Nazis in 1938 and moved to the United States in 1948.
She served in many positions in government, including staff in the United States Senate, congressional liaison for the National Security Advisor, Ambassador to the United Nations, and Secretary of State.

Also flying at half staff is the Bennington Flag.
