On June 2, 1953, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned as Queen of the United Kingdom. She had ascended to the throne on the death of her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952. She is the longest reigning monarch in the history of the United Kingdom and the third longest reigning monarch in modern world history.
