Today, the flag of Utah flies in commemoration of Pioneer Day, which commemorates the entry of Mormon and non-Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley between the 1840’s and the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869.
This will be the final Pioneer Day for this design of the Utah state flag. On March 2, 2023 , the Utah Legislature approved a new flag design, which will become the state flag on March 9, 2024.
