Today, the flags of the Kansas City, Missouri and the state of Missouri fly in memory of those killed and injured at the Kansas City Chiefs victory rally yesterday by another mass shooting.
By most definitions, this is the fifth mass shooting in the United States in 2024. That’s five mass shootings in seven weeks. In 2023, a total of 754 people were killed and 2,443 other people were injured in 604 shootings. The fact that this keeps happening over and over and over again is a failure of our democracy to adequately respond to a danger that is facing our nation and society. Gun violence of all types is a public health issue and should be treated as such.
I hope that those injured recover and that the family of the person killed can get some peace. I hope that we, as a nation, can get beyond our political differences and do something about this widening epidemic of gun violence.

The Flag of Kansas City was updated in 2023 and is a stunning design. It is the 7th flag for the city and is a simple, instantly recognizable design.
