Today the Bennington Flag and the Betsy Ross Flag fly in celebration of Patriots’ Day, which is a holiday celebrated in Massachusetts, Maine, and four other states commemorating the first battles of the Revolutionary War in Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy on April 19, 1775.

Though the Bennington Flag came after the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, it is one of the most recognizable revolutionary war flags for two reasons. First, because of the number 76 in the canton, and second because it is one of the few United States flag variants to have white tripes on the edges, rather than the traditional red.
