Today, the flag of the Oakland Ballers professional baseball team flies. The team, founded in response to the Oakland Athletics’ disingenuous campaign to leave Oakland and its approval by Major League Baseball.

The Oakland Ballers are an independent team playing in the Pioneer League. Baseball has been an important part of Oakland even before the A’s moved here in 1968. The ballers hope to keep this tradition alive for years to come by community investment and commitment to Oakland! On July 21st of this year, the Washington Post published an article describing the creation of the team and the community spirit around it!
The Ballers play their last two home games of the season tonight at Raimondi Park.
This is the video they play at the beginning of each game on the screen at Raimondi Park.

Also flying today is the SELL flag. This flag represents a movement to get the current ownership of the Oakland Athletics to sell the team to a community based group. Oakland is a major league city and, through its entire baseball history, has earned the right to a major league team.
The current ownership group has waged a campaign to convince MLB that the team isn’t profitable in Oakland. They’ve done so by tanking the team and raising ticket prices beyond anything justified by the quality of play. Who knows where the A’s will end up. I still hope it’s Oakland…
