Today, the flag of the United States flies at half staff on each flag pole. On my pole, the flag flies in remembrance of the 2,977 people that were in killed the terrorist attacks which occurred on this date 23 years ago. On Mr. Alvis’s pole, the flag flies in celebration of the life of James Earl Jones, who died on September 9, 2024.
Mr. Jones was a noted actor, beginning his career in the Kubrick classic Dr. Strangelove and continuing in films including the Star Wars series, Field of Dreams, The Sandlot, and The Lion King, among others. He was also a star of television and the stage. He is one of the few people who have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards during his career.
