November 5, 2024 – Election Day

Image of the Betsy Ross Flag

Today the First flag of the United States (aka Betsy Ross Flag) and the current flag of the United States fly in recognition of the 51 separate, but concurrent elections being held today. On my ballot are measures and races from my 1.7 square mile city, my 821 square mile county, my 163,696 square mile state, and the two elected offices that exist for my 3,796,742 square mile country.

The race that is drawing the most attention is the national race, that for President and Vice-President, but the more local races and measures are extremely important as well. I hope that everyone who is eligible to cast a ballot does so!

Our government is one that requires participation at all levels. I hope that this election day; the certification of these 51 concurrent, but separate elections; the casting and counting of electoral votes; and the taking office of all who are elected go peacefully and without incident, as is the usual history of our nation. I also hope, in Lincoln’s concluding words of the Gettysburg address, “…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
