Today, the flag of the United States and the flag of the United States Naval Academy Brigade of Midshipmen fly at half staff to celebrate the life of President Jimmy Carter on the day of his funeral and internment. President Joe Biden proclaimed today as a national day of mourning for President Carter.

President Carter served as from January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981. He served as the 76th Governor of Georgia from January 12, 1971 to January 14, 1975 and a Georgia State Senator from January 14, 1963 to January 9, 1967.
In 1943, President Carter received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, graduating in 1946. Her served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1953, and in the Naval Reserve until 1961.


The United States flag which I am flying today flew over the United States Capitol on May 14, 2000. The Brigade of Midshipmen flag flaying today belonged to the John Alvis, who gave me my flag pole. It is flying on his flag pole, which was given to me by his daughter.
