Today, the flags of the United States and the flag of the City of Oakland fly at half staff in memory of the life of Rickey Henderson, who died on December 20, 2024.
Rickey was a legend, the heart and soul of the Oakland Athletics during his playing days and after. A member of the baseball hall of fame, he hold the records for all-time in runs scored (2,295) and stolen bases (1,406), fourth in career games played (3,081), 13th in at bats (10,961), and 26th in hits (3,055) as of the end of the 2024 season. I remember seeing him play at the Coliseum during his second stint with the A’s from 1989-1993 and it was magic. He will be missed!
The flag of the United States continues to fly at half staff in memory of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024. In accordance with 4 USC 7 (m), the flag will be flown at half staff in President Carter’s memory until January 28, 2025.
