Today, the flags of the United States and the City of Oakland fly at half staff in memory of David Lillevand, the father of a good friend of mine, who recently passed away. Dave was an accomplished attorney, a dedicated sportsman, and a creative thinker. He was also a consummate gentleman as well as a dedicated father and grandfather.
In his younger years, he played basketball for three seasons at the University of San Francisco from 1956-1959, scoring 4.0 points per game as a reserve guard on USF’s 1957 Final Four team. He averaged 2.7 points per game as a junior and 5.8 points per game as a senior and was noted for having the only two-handed set shot on the 1957-1958 team.
Dave tirelessly supported his children’s endeavors and loved his grandchildren without reservation. He served as an assistant coach when his daughter coached the women’s basketball team at CSU East Bay. He traveled near and far to watch his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play sports.
We are keeping the Lillevand family in our hearts today and always!
