Today, at my lovely wife’s request for flags with green in them, fly the State of Washington and the City of Bellingham in the Evergreen State.
Bellingham

The flag of the City of Bellingham, Washington was officially adopted by the City Council on April 24, 2017, with the passage of Resolution 2017-17. It was designed by Bradley Lockhart, who I had the Pleasure of meeting at the NAVA 59 Conference in Seattle in October 2025. On his web page, Bradley describes the process of designing the flag, getting community buy in, and then approval by the city. He also describes shos how the flag of Bellingham has been embraced by the community.
Washington

RCW § 1.20.010 defines the flag as follows: “The official flag of the state of Washington shall be of dark green silk or bunting and shall bear in its center a reproduction of the seal of the state of Washington embroidered, printed, painted or stamped thereon. The edges of the flag may, or may not, be fringed. If a fringe is used the same shall be of gold or yellow color of the same shade as the seal. The dimensions of the flag may vary.” This design was adopted in 1923 with the passage of SB 154. It’s been updated slightly since that time to standardize the green and update the seal. The state’s flag is the only one with a green background and the only only featuring the likeness of a President.
