Today, the flag of the state of Michigan flies in celebration of Michigan’s admission to the Union on January 26, 1837.

Michigan Compiled Laws, Chapter 2, Act 209 of 1911, § 2.23 defines the flag as follows: “The state flag shall be blue charged with the arms of the state.” It was adopted on August 1, 1911.
The state seal features the motto of Michigan, Si Quæris Peninsulam Amœnam Circumspice, which translated from the Latin into English means, “If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.”
