Today the flags of the Republic of the Philippines and the State of California fly in remembrance of Mordechai. He passed away recently and was the father of a dear friend of mine. May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends.

The flag of the Philippines was originally adopted in 1898, updated to the current patten in 1936, and was reaffirmed by the Philippine legislature in 1998. The Philippines has had a number of flags through the years, including the flag of Spain and the flag of the United States, when those conuntries controlled the nation.
§4 of Republic Act 8491 defines the flag as, “The flag of the Philippines shall be blue, white and red with an eight-rayed golden-yellow sun and three five-pointed stars, as consecrated and honored by the people.” The flag was designed by Emilio Aguinaldo, a Filipino revolutionary who is considered by some as the first president of the Philippines.
