Today the flag of Bellingham, Washington and the International Code of Signals flags spelling Karin fly in celebration of my lovely wife Karin’s birthday. Karin is an amazing person and I’m truly amazed to have spent over half my life with her. Her care, compassion, love, dedication, devotion, and social conscience are just some of the reasons I love her!
Bellingham flies because Karin loves the forest and the sea and the blue and greens of this flag make me think of her.
The International Code of Signals is an international standard set of flags with one flag for each letter of the english alphabet, one for each numeral from 0-9, and several substitutes and pennants. Each of the letter flags has additional meanings as detailed in Publication 102 – INTERNATIONAL CODE OF SIGNALS FOR VISUAL, SOUND, AND RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Karin and I are both sailors and have a history of signal flags. I asked her out on our secnd date using signal flags to begin with.
