Today, in celebration of Tynwald Day, the flag of the Isle of Man, flies. Tynwald day is the Manx national day and has both celebratory and official functions. The celebration includes a fair and market, concerts, and fireworks, among other celebrations.

The official function is a meeting of the Manx legislative assembly, the Tynwald, St. John’s on Tynwald Hill, during which laws are promulgated and petitions for redress are received. Under Manx Law, a law falls off the statute books if it is not officially promulgated on Tynwald Hill within 18 months of passage. Generally, this promulgation takes place during this open air meeting.

According to the font of all knowledge, “The flag of the Isle of Man or flag of Mann (Manx: brattagh Vannin) is a triskelion, composed of three armoured legs with golden spurs, upon a red background. It has been the official flag of the Isle of Mann since 1 December 1932 and is based on the Manx coat of arms, which dates back to the 13th century.”
