Today, the flag of the State of Florida flies in commemoration of the its admission to the Union on March 3, 1845 as the 27th state.

The current version of Florida’s flag was adopted On November 6, 1900 and the state seal was standardized in 1985, which necessitated its standardization on the flag. It’s is the state’s fourth flag design.
Florida Statutes, Title IV, Chapter 15, § 15.012 defines the flag as follows, “he state flag shall conform with standard commercial sizes and be of the following proportions and description: The seal of the state, in diameter one-half the hoist, shall occupy the center of a white ground. Red bars, in width one-fifth the hoist, shall extend from each corner toward the center, to the outer rim of the seal.”

Also flying today is the flag of Scotland, which also features a saltire, but with a blue background and a white St. Andrew’s cross.
