Today the flag of the City of Piedmont flies.

The City of Piedmont incorporated in January of 1907. It has remained an independent, full service city since then. Originally it was along the eastern edge of the City of Oakland, but in the intervening years, Oakland has annexed into the hills and now completely surrounds the Piedmont. Piedmont’s population of 11,270 at the 2020 census is the smallest of any of the fourteen incorporated cities in Alameda County.
The current flag of the City of Piedmont was adopted on December 17, 1997. It features a drawing of a thistle, highlighting Piedmont’s connection to the Highlands of Scotland. The city is located in the Oakland Hills, our main street is Highland Avenue, the mascot of Piedmont Middle School is the Scot, the mascot of Piedmont High School is the Highlander.
Also flying today is the flag of Alameda County.

Alameda County was established in 1853 taking portions of Contra Costa and Santa Clara Counties. With its county seat in Oakland, Alameda County is the seventh largest county by population (1.6 million) and fiftieth by area (738 square miles) of California’s 58 counties.
