Today, the flags of the United States and the state of California, as well as the Vote flag, fly in honor of the direct primary election which is taking place today across the Golden State’s 58 counties.
Today, Californians get to select candidates for congressional, statewide, legislative, and local races for the November general election. In addition, voters get to cast their ballots on regional, county, and local ballot measures.
Our government is one that requires participation at all levels. I hope that this election day; the counting and certification of the results go peacefully and without incident, as is the usual history of our nation. I also hope, in Lincoln’s concluding words of the Gettysburg address, “…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
