Today, the Progress Pride Flag and the Transgender Flag fly in celebration of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.

The original pride flag was created in 1978 by Gilbert Baker and has evolved since then many times. The version I fly was created in 2018 to add more of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow into the flag. For more information on Pride Flags, see the wonderful page on the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus web site.

The Transgender flag was designed in 1999. Quoting the SGFMC page linked above, “The Transgender Pride Flag was designed by activist Monica Helms in 1999 to represent those whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. The Transgender Flag features a set of five horizontal stripes in light blue, pink, and white. The light blue stripe represents the traditional color for baby boys, the pink stripe represents the traditional color for baby girls, and the white stripe represents non-binary or gender non-conforming individuals.”
