Yesterday, the news of the death of Dolly Parton spread across the world. In a divided world, Dolly Parton was an example of someone who united our nation and used her fame an fortune for good. She thought globally and acted locally.
Over decades, Dolly worked on and supported work on many issues including education and literacy; animal welfare and conservancy; LGBTQ+ advocacy; disaster relief and community aid; and healthcare and medical research, among others. From her imagination library, which provided one book per month to each enrolled child from the time of their birth until they enter kindergarten to her donation to the research and development of COVID-19 vaccines, Dolly put her success to good use to help the community.
Dolly was a consummate musician, loved by critics and audiences alike. She was nominated and received many music industry awards. She was a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts and a Kennedy Center Honor, among many other awards. He r career spanned decades, with her first album released in 1967 and her last in 2023.
