Today, the flags of the United States and the state of California, as well as the Vote flag, fly in honor of the statewide general election which is taking place today across the Golden State’s 58 counties and the elections taking place across the nation today.
Today, Californians get to vote for candidates in congressional, statewide, legislative, and local races. In addition, voters get to cast their ballots on statewide, regional, county, and local ballot measures.
Our government is one that requires participation at all levels. I hope that this election day; the counting and certification of the results go peacefully and without incident, as is the usual history of our nation. I also hope, in Lincoln’s concluding words of the Gettysburg address, “…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
