Today, the flag of the province of Ontario flies in celebration of Ontario Flag Day.
The Province of Ontario’s official flag was recognized on May 21, 1965. The flag includes the Union Jack, representing Ontario’s roots as a part of the British Empire, and Ontario’s Shield of Arms, symbolizing the province’s loyalty to Canada. It was adopted shortly after the Parliament of Canada adopted the maple leaf flag. Ontario then officially adopted this flag, replacing the shield of Canada with the province’s shield.
Also flying today is the flag of British Columbia, which is my favorite provincial flag in Canada.
