Today, the flag of France flies in celebration of Bastille Day. The Flags of New Zealand and Montana fly in memory of actor Sam Neill, who passed away this week.

July 14th is Bastille Day, the national day of France.
Sam Neill

Sam Neill was an actor in many films and television shows over a long career. I’m flaying the flag of New Zealand because it’s the nation of his birth. I’m flying the flag of Montana because of the role I remember him most from, as the Vasily Borodin, Executive Officer on the Soviet submarine in “The Hunt for Red October.” In the film, his character has a long discussion with Captain Ramius, played by Sean Connery, about his dreams of exploring the United States and specifically the state of Montana. In the film, after saving Captain Ramius’s life, his last words are, “I would like to have seen Montana.”
